Your new company
The school is a medium-sized primary school in the west of Newport, with around 400 pupils in classes from reception to year 6. The school is a nurturing environment where children make good progress and enjoy coming to school. The curriculum is supplemented with a range of extracurricular activities, and there is also a focus on community-based activities.
Your new role
The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant in the reception class, to support a child with additional learning needs to access the curriculum and develop their social skills. The position is full-time, during term-time on an ongoing basis. You will provide individualised support to the child to help them to participate in classroom activities and interact with their peers. You will work closely with the class teacher, the ALNCO and other professionals to ensure the child’s needs are met, and also liaise with their parents. You will promote the child’s well-being, safety and independence.
What you’ll need to succeed
– Have a minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience
– Have previous experience of working with children with additional learning difficulties, preferably in the foundation phase
– Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
– Have a positive, patient and flexible attitude
– Have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
