Aspiring Outreach Worker – Youth Justice Worker – Behaviour Mentor – LSA – Mental Health
Learning Support Assistant – A role in a specialist provision for boys excluded from their mainstream education. A school with a real holistic and restorative focus, this LSA role is ideal if you need experience working with vulnerable children who have been subjected to severe trauma.
If you have had previous experience working with vulnerable children and adults, or experience with refugee charities (like Hestia for example), your skills could translate incredibly well into this LSA role. Having an understanding of humanities, the cultural and political issues and values that will have an impact upon boys who have social, emotional and mental health concerns would be of great value.
To work in mental health settings you need a huge amount of empathy, sincerity and emotional maturity. This LSA role will certainly build your empathy – there will be safeguarding concerns and issues to deal with this role almost every day – it’s a case of understanding where the boys you are working with have come from.
This is a very challenging role and any experience working with charities like Hestia and Nacro would be of real interest. In this LSA role within a Pupil Referral Unit, you will see safeguarding issues and have to know how you will react in certain contexts. This will help and prepare you in aiding victims of the trauma of rape, sexual abuse or domestic slavery.
