Behaviour Support Assistant Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 support for young students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
• Support the delivery of in-class activities, promoting independent learning where possible, and encouraging appropriate social skills.
• Work alongside the teaching staff to support pupil behaviour, learning and personal development.
• Build a trusting relationship and rapport with the student to help re-engage them with their learning in a safe and caring environment.
• Help the student to replace their feelings of failure and frustration with a sense of belonging and success.

Behaviour Support Officer Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a school or residential setting.
• Be knowledgeable or different complex needs, associated learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge and understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies such as Team Teach, NAPPI or MAPPA.
• Be able to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
• Have an Enhanced Child Only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
