Behavioural Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

Hays Education are working with an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ alternative provision based in Leicestershire that caters for children aged 11-16 years who have been excluded, or are at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education.

The alternative provision works with a number of secondary schools across Leicestershire to provide the appropriate support for KS3 / KS4 students that may need it. The types of SEN that these students have vary from SEMH, ADHD and ASD.

What you’ll need to succeed:

• You must have experience of working with children and young people in some capacity such as in a school, residential care, youth club or sports club.
• Experience working in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) or an Alternative Provision (AP)
• Experience working with children with SEN is essential – ideally challenging behaviour
• Good understanding & knowledge of behaviour management strategies
• Experience working with children in a small group or 1:1 setting
• You will need to be able to communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents
• You will need to be professional, patient, resilient, and enthusiastic

Your role as a Behavioural Teaching Assistant will be to help students with day to day activities and tasks, as well as to work effectively with the schools multi-disciplinary team of Teachers, Teaching Assistants and other support staff. You will also ensure the health and safety of the students, and follow schools policies and procedures closely.
