CSMV are looking for a Communications Officer, to publicise the fabulous new facilities and associated events at St Mary’s Convent in Wantage. The new post is part time (15-20 hours per week) and the postholder will be key to shaping the role. The salary will be in the region of £21,000 (full time equivalent, pro rata to the hours contracted). The Community of St Mary the Virgin at Wantage is a Church of England community dedicated to engaging in spiritual direction, leading retreats and providing hospitality for visiting guests. The Community is undergoing major changes, investing in:
the establishment of the Maribel Centre – brand new conference space,
refurbishment of the 21 guest bedrooms in the Retreat Wing,
office accommodation for educational organisations,
the provision of subsidised housing for newly qualified teachers.
These developments represent an extension of the Community’s historic educational mission, which originally included running schools in the UK and overseas, and builds on the history of hospitality offered by the Sisters.
The Community is based in a peaceful Victorian Convent setting in Wantage.
About the role
As a result of the investment in our facilities, we have created this new part-time Communications Officer role (15-20 hours per week) which we are now looking to fill with someone who can shape the role with us. You will be promoting CSMV to a range of stakeholders, including those interested in the facilities and events at the Convent. You will need to:
Identify what each communication is intended to achieve;
Be able to develop clear and appropriate messages;
Help to choose the appropriate media;
Record the results and analyse the level of effectiveness of the communication.
The postholder will support the Sisters and the staff at CSMV across all their communications and marketing needs. We are looking for a highly motivated individual willing to get stuck into a range of tasks and to support the team. Tasks may range from data entry, copywriting and proof reading, updating our website, posting on social media and promoting and supporting events. An eye for detail, a solid grasp of IT and a can-do, positive attitude are essential. This role would suit someone who is very organised and enjoys supporting others, is comfortable with a spreadsheet, and can prioritise and multi-task effectively.
