School Health Care Assistant Southwark Borough Secondary School

Position Overview: Madison Reign is working with a secondary school in the Southwark Borough, who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join their school’s healthcare team. The Health Care Assistant will play a crucial role in providing basic medical support and ensuring the overall well-being of students. This position requires a strong sense of empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals. The role is to start early September and goes on until July 2024.

An enhanced childworkforce DBS is needed for this position.

95 – 115 a day

Responsibilities:

1. Student Health Monitoring: Regularly monitor and assess students’ health conditions, noting any changes or concerns. Provide immediate attention to students who feel unwell, ensuring their comfort and safety.
2. First Aid and Emergency Response: Administer first aid to students as needed for minor injuries and illnesses. Respond promptly to medical emergencies, following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate medical personnel if necessary.
3. Medication Management: Administer prescribed medications to students in accordance with school policies and medical instructions. Maintain accurate records of medication administration and ensure compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
4. Health Records Maintenance: Keep updated and accurate health records for each student, including medical histories, allergies, and other relevant information. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
5. Health Promotion: Assist in promoting healthy habits and behaviors among students, including hygiene, nutrition, and exercise. Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement health-related educational programs.
6. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s health status, injuries, and medical needs. Collaborate with teachers and staff to provide information on any health concerns that might affect a student’s performance or participation in school activities.
7. Healthcare Support: Collaborate with school nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student health. Assist with medical screenings and health assessments as required.
8. Equipment and Supplies: Keep medical supplies and equipment well-stocked and organized. Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition and follow proper procedures for disinfection and sterilization.
9. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, including those pertaining to infectious diseases, hygiene, and privacy. Stay informed about updates in healthcare regulations and practices.
10. Professional Development: Stay current with relevant healthcare trends and best practices by attending workshops, training sessions, and conferences. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education or certification in healthcare, such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant, is preferred.
• Previous experience in a healthcare or school setting is advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact empathetically with students of diverse backgrounds and needs.
• Basic knowledge of first aid, common medical conditions, and medication administration.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and managing supplies.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take initiative when necessary.
• Respect for confidentiality and ethical handling of medical information.

Working Conditions: The Health Care Assistant will work within the school premises and follow the academic calendar. This is a part-time/full-time position with regular school hours. Some flexibility might be required during special events or emergencies.
