Role Purpose :
To take ownership for the maintenance of the Woodside Group buildings & sites, ensuring that students and staff have a comfortable, clean, safe and well maintained environment in which to work.
Skill Requirements:
Essential
Craft skills, e.g. plumber, electrician, decorating or previous experience in a caretaking role including repairs and maintenance.
Experience of liaising with external contractors including negotiating prices for small jobs.
Experience of using drills, screwdrivers and other mechanised DIY tools
Experience of painting
Clean driving license & business insurance
Motivation and initiative
Self-starter and able to work without supervision
Flexible approach to working hours, as some activities may need to be conducted outside of school operating hours.
An ability to undertake risk assessments in relation to premises function.
Ability to highlight unsafe practises and risks to the Senior Leadership Team.
Desirable
Previous experience in an education environment
Project Management of maintenance project or programme
Knowledge of Health & Safety issues relevant to the post including legislation and COSHH and legionella.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
General Responsibilities:
To be proactive in identifying maintenance requirements across the sites by carrying out r regular site maintenance/safety inspections.
With sign off from the Director of Operations order materials and equipment required
Maintain a jobs list using High, Medium and Low risk approach
Manage budget and pockit card
Manage the maintenance, replacement and repair of our buildings and grounds, including electrics, plumbing, heating, glass wear, door removals, painting and decorating, etc
Use drills, screwdrivers and other mechanised tools as necessary to complete the jobs on the jobs list
Attending training, working in a safe manner and maintain accurate records.
To undertake the efficient maintenance of the building and general site.
To maintain the buildings and amenities
Any other duties deemed reasonable, as directed by the Director of Operations or other appropriate leader
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
All employees are responsible for ensuring they take every reasonable action to keep themselves and everyone in the school environment safe and well.
To comply with Health and Safety legislation, Woodside Group policy and good health and safety practices in relation to the use of the school premises, grounds and own duties and responsibilities.
Report any breaches of safety regulations/policies or other safety concerns noticed to the Head teacher, to enable the school and school grounds to be safe and healthy places for pupils, staff and others to use.
Ensure that the school’s Health and Safety Policy is complied with in as far as it relates to Premises and Contractor’s staff to ensure their safety and that of the students, staff and other school users.
To ensure that caretaking equipment e.g., mechanical aids, steps etc. are in a safe condition and stored safely.
Report and repair any non-structural hazards i.e., broken windows, equipment, or any structural faults that are seen which cause concern or may be in an unsafe condition.
Keep workspace clean, tidy, safe from hazards and locked at all times where not in use
Maintain the school van and ensure it is kept clean, tidy and safe for others to use
Complete Legionella water flush throughs for the bases
