Secondary School Chaplain

Salary and Grade: Term Time Only + 1 week (P.20 – 26) £31,731 – £35,217 FTE (pro-rata £26,939 – £29,899)

Line Manager: Assistant Head

Key Responsibilities:

To animate the spiritual, religious and liturgical life of the school and promote and maintain it as a high profile;
To accompany people at particular stages of their journey through life; To help people to recognise God’s love for them and their need of God;
To enable people to share their questions without being too hasty to provide the right answer;
To acknowledge everyone as a person of worth;
To be visible and approachable throughout the School;
To get to know people individually and build relationships and links with chaplaincy;
To develop a collaborative style of ministry that encourages a team approach to chaplaincy;
To share in the joys and sorrows of others;
To provide a termly report to the Governing Body;

Chaplaincy Focus:

Foster a vibrant spiritual and liturgical life in the secondary school.
Accompany students through life’s stages, helping them recognize their need for God.
Facilitate open discussions, acknowledging the worth of every individual.
Develop visible and approachable presence across the school.

Student and Staff Support:

Provide support and leadership to students in their spiritual journey.
Assist in daily worship, addressing sensitive issues based on Church principles.
Advise and be a link in the Catholic community, participating in in-service training.

Expectations:

Collaborate with the Headteacher on other duties as assigned.
Receive support and budget from the school for effective chaplaincy.
Maintain chaplaincy’s visibility and importance in school life.
