The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work with children ranging from 5 to 16 years old, many of whom have special needs, including ADHD, SEMH, ASD, and complex needs. Your role will be critical in creating a safe and nurturing environment for these students, helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and assistance to students with SEMH needs in SEN and Alternative provisions.
• Implement effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to tailor support plans for individual students.
• Foster a positive and empathetic learning atmosphere to promote the emotional well-being of students.
• Adapt to different educational settings and age groups, from primary to secondary levels.
• Support the educational, social, and emotional development of students.

SEMH Teaching Assistant

Requirements

• Experience in the classroom is desirable but not essential.
• Passion for working with young learners with social and emotional mental health needs.
• Experience in youth work, youth support work, or young offender support is desirable.
• Excellent behaviour management skills.
• Ability to adapt and work effectively in various educational settings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A commitment to making a difference in the lives of students with SEMH needs.

Working Hours: Teaching Assistants are required for the full school day, typically from 8.30am to 3.30pm.

Flexible Work Options: We offer both full-time Teaching Assistant contracts with immediate starts in local schools, as well as opportunities for flexible supply work. This flexibility is ideal for those who wish to work a few days or build experience across various year groups. We provide advance notice for supply work and can accommodate morning assignments to cover absences.
