We are currently working with a specialist school in Cardiff who require a Teaching Assistant to support pupils across the school. The role involves working with children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) needs, challenging behaviour and additional learning disabilities such as ASD, ADHD and ODD. You will be working with individuals or small groups of children, providing support to access their learning as well as with their social interactions. The hours are full time school hours, Monday to Friday 8.30 to 3.30 with a 30 minute break and available for an immediate start. Pay is competitive.
The school caters for 40-45 primary aged pupils, who have a statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) with many pupils having additional barriers to learning including mental health needs. The pupil to staff ratio at the school is high with 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants per class and the curriculum is personalised with a strong emphasis on the well being of pupils.
The successful candidate will preferably have previous experience of working with children or young people and working with challenging behaviour and SEMH. To be successful in this role, you must have a strong desire to work with children to achieve the very best outcomes for each individual, in addition to being very resilient and willing to work under pressure.
You must have an enhanced child DBS and be registered with the Education Workforce Council or be willing to apply for these.
