The Purpose
The role of English and/or Math’s Functional Skills teacher will be a key role in the delivery of the colleges’ High Needs Support 16-24 Study Programmes and Supported Internships. This will include delivery to cohorts undertaking various curriculum pathways. You will be a highly enthusiastic and skilled teacher with a demonstrated passion for teaching students with Special Educational Needs or disabilities & Social, Emotional & Mental Health Needs including Profound and Complex disabilities. Reporting to the provision manager on a day-to-day basis. You will be accountable for planning and delivering a functional skills curriculum to college students; maintaining a high success rate and complying with Expanse Learning policies and procedures. You will have significant recent experience within the post 16 SEN education sector. You will have a track record of delivering high standards, combined with excellent communication, good time management and effective planning skills.
The Job Description
To lead on the development, planning and delivery of English or Maths for the college.
To be responsible the development of schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment plans, resources and the facilitation of examinations.
To support students to access appropriate learning programmes using a range of diagnostic tools, progress monitoring and assessment methods.
To manage successful completion of student achievement in line with Expanse Learning and Pearson policies including accurate and timely completion of all related administration.
To teach English and/or maths sessions to enable students to develop knowledge and skills and achieve personal and/or academic development targets.
To establish precise learning objectives, content and clear learning outcomes for all teaching undertaken.
To develop appropriate teaching strategies with cohort teachers which meet the needs of all students.
To analyse data and report to leaders and stakeholders on progress and achievement of qualifications and personal success targets for students.
To act as a personal teacher to enable students to manage aspects their own learning.
To effectively manage caseload of students to ensure timely success rates are achieved.
To comply with and support the Expanse Learning quality improvement and quality assurance processes.
To maintain efficient records and complete BKSB and Databridge MIS systems.
To fulfil Pearson Awarding Body and ICE requirements, including standardisation and internal verification.
To demonstrate a consistent approach to self-management of Continuous Professional Development.
To comply with Child Protection requirements as outlined in the Child Protection Policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, this is inclusive of radicalisation and extremism as part of the Protect Agenda and preparing for modern life in Britain.

Person Specification Essential:
Degree level specialist Qualification in a relevant subject area
Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths.
Knowledge and understanding of teaching, assessment and verification processes
Experience of working with students with SEND /SEMH
Knowledge of the demands of working with external organisations including ESFA, Ofsted and Pearson
Knowledge and understanding of maintaining good teaching and learning practices
Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, e-portfolio systems and databridge
Awareness of current issues affecting SEND Education, Health and Social Care sector
Awareness of local and national SEND education and training needs
Proven ability to work with a variety of teams of staff
Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development
Proven ability to design, implement and review assessment and delivery methods
Ability to liaise/communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals and external agencies/employers
Excellent communication skills
Ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently
Recent and relevant proven ability to assess and teach in specialist SEND college
Ability to create strong links with others and work effectively as part of a team
Proven ability to develop curriculum resources, effective teaching strategies and manage examinations to meet SEND student’s needs and external awarding body requirements
