WETHERBY PREPARATORY SCHOOL MARYLEBONE – W1
We seek to recruit either an existing, specialist teacher, or a talented practitioner who would like to develop their career in this direction. Applications are welcome from those with appropriate independent or maintained sector experience, including secondary schools. Outstanding Newly Qualified Teachers may be considered.
The Music Department at Wetherby is a busy and vibrant department that is currently expanding at a rapid pace. We currently have four rock bands, a jazz collective, string ensemble, wind band, three choirs, guitar and harp ensemble, percussion club, and a composing group. We hold regular informal breakfast concerts for the boys to perform in and always have a musical interlude (solo performance) in assembly each week. We currently run acoustic and rock concerts as well as a variety of outside concerts. We run a yearly music tour, often travelling in Europe.
The Music Department falls within the Performing Arts Faculty and works closely with the Drama Department on a number of productions each year.
The post holder will be a full time member of the teaching staff at Wetherby Preparatory School and will hold responsibility for delivering the curriculum to classes in Years 3-8
Main Responsibilities
To provide high quality teaching to Years 3-8
To promote and engaging learning environment
To contribute to the music department’s schemes of work and resources
To meet with the Director of Music and Performing Arts regularly to evaluate the work of the department and prepare for future events.
To use appropriate strategies for teaching, assessment, and classroom management consistently and effectively.
To provide ongoing written observations, assessments and reports.
Complete administrative duties as required.
To communicate effectively with other team members.
To keep up to date with relevant publications and materials to support the planning of lessons.
To promote the activities of the Music Department in the school and wider community through performances at school functions and outside venues.
To play hymns for assemblies in liaison with the Director of Music.
To attend and assist with any rehearsals, school concerts, musicals and other productions, as requested by the Director of Music.
To maintain personal performing skills, thereby setting good standards at the above occasions and providing a source of encouragement for pupils’ own performances.
To assist the Director of Music, helping to arrange and encourage suitable performance opportunities for all ensembles and pupils throughout the year.
To run extra curricular music clubs, as suited to the candidate’s specialisms.
To liaise and help the Director of Music with the calendar of events
To organise visits from suitable organizations or to appropriate concerts to extend the musical experiences available to the boys.
To work flexibly when required.
Abide by the objectives and targets of the school, and follow the procedures and practices utilised in all aspects of the work, including computerised and manual systems and the maintenance of relevant records.
Fulfil personal requirements where appropriate with regard to school policies and procedures, particularly safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, customer care and promotion of the school’s core values.

To attend any other meetings deemed appropriate to the post.
To write reports on the children in their care.
To carry out any additional duties which may from time to time be required by the SMT.
To exercise appropriate professionalism, discretion and confidentiality in the carrying out of all duties described above.
To teach all pupils to the best of his/her ability at all times
To attend any such courses deemed necessary by the SMT for the continuation and improvement of the School and its pupils.
To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest standard and to reflect that high standard in dress and general appearance.

Person Specification
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in music
A highly talented practitioner of your subject
Ability to accompany at the piano to roughly grade 4
Maintain high standards of teaching and learning
Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, students and parents
Become familiar and competent in setting work using Teams and contribute to the management of digital resources
Teach any elements of the academic music lessons as required
Flexibility and the ability to think outside the box, with a willingness to contribute to the smooth running of the Performing Arts department and the school.
Desirable
Recognised teacher qualification status
Familiarity with music-processing software (i.e. Sibelius)
An interest/experience in the tuition of Music Technology
Experience of directing ensembles
Experience of working in a busy school environment
PC literate and happy to quickly learn how to use new technology
Understanding of promotion on Instagram
Ability to edit audio and visual recordings
Specialist knowledge and skills
