KS1 TA / Key Stage 1 teaching Assistant
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Level 2/3 KS1 TA / Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant in an outstanding Primary school in Sheffield. Do you hold a Level 2/3 NVQ certificate in Children’s Learning and Development or equivalent? Are you confident and passionate in teaching literacy and numeracy to KS1 pupils? Do you work brilliantly independently and as part of a team?
Schools are going to be needing dedicated and committed staff that are going to be able to hit the ground running and help move the school forward into a sense of normality and help accelerate rates of progress for children. This last few months in school life have been unsettling and challenging for all children so familiarity and consistency is needed with this class.
You will be working in a diverse class in Y2. It is a very exciting and vibrant class that does need to be supported to help settle and become engaged. Once focussed the class keeps up with fast paced and progressive lessons. The majority of your work will be helping to support as a whole class assistant but there will be elements of 121 support and small group work due to school cohorts.
The school has a moderate level of SEND need with a mix of mild and complex needs. The school is typically higher than national average for SEND needs within the classes. Due to this higher than national average percentage of needs within the class, every class needs a TA to help support the teacher make the maximum levels of progress. Whether you will help support children with barriers to learning or provide target boosters for lower achieving pupils, you will be a great support to the teacher. The school has low levels of EAL needs.
You will need to be skilled in using supports such as now and next cards or pictured instructions with pupils in order to support the children. Learning goals will be provided by the class teacher and planning will be explained for each lesson so that you work in a great partnership to boost the progress of the class.
The school has a very close knit family feel, having recently seen Ofsted results go from inadequate to good. The whole had to pull together and work extremely hard to achieve this fantastic result to it is imperative that you continue this work whilst you are there and fully immerse yourself into their culture.
It is an exciting school to work at as the provide exciting climax to each half terms topic work with an event to tie all the hard work together, such as external education providers coming to the school. It really is a special place to work!
The headteacher is seeking to employ a new TA to start in March (dependant on schools returning)
The role will include:
Assisting the teacher with classroom preparation
1-1 work with students who require additional support
Leading group work
Helping the class teacher with pupil observations
