Salary: FTE £24,618 (actual pro-rata £19,296) per annum

We are seeking a Sports Assistant who is a keen sportsperson. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside our vibrant and ambitious PE department at Blackheath High School. You will be involved in supporting Physical Education within the junior school, with potential opportunities to also contribute to activities in the senior school. This will include assisting with PE and Games lessons, providing support with fixtures, trips, and activities, umpiring matches, and preparing resources for teaching and fixtures. Additionally, you will provide support to the PE department with a variety of administrative tasks.
The successful candidate will be able to coach/lead at least two of the following – Hockey, Netball, Dance, Cricket, or Athletics. It is expected that the successful candidate will add to the profile of sport at the school, demonstrating enthusiasm and energy and inspiring participation at this exciting time in the development of sport at BHS. Sports Assistants will work in the Junior school, working closely with the PE department and other sports coaches, primarily assisting them in coaching, team management, umpiring and team-teaching PE.
A degree of flexibility is required for this post. Occasionally fixtures or tournaments can go beyond 5 pm. Your availability will be discussed and agreed with the Head of Junior PE, and you may be given time off in lieu when necessary. You will also be expected to participate in training and other learning activities as required (for example, Staff Inset Days at the start of each term). Availability at lunchtime (12.50-2 pm) and after school (3.30-5 pm) for fixtures is also essential.
There is an option to extend this contract beyond one year for the right candidate, and an interest in this should be expressed at application. We welcome applicants from graduates and those looking to develop their career in sport and/or education.
